The wandering falcon by jamil ahmed

I don’t like to spoil any major plot twists in my reviews, i will do the same for this one as well.

The wandering falcon is an engaging book and its author is even more interesting “Jamil Ahmed a civil servant/writer made his debut at the age of 78.

The wandering falcon is all about tribal areas & mountains of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Their norms and traditions which they follow religiously and have lasted longer than any ruler. They are both pleasant and vicious.

This extraordinary journey begins with a young girl who eloped with a boy & years later their bloodthirsty families hunt them down, leaving behind their little boy “Tor baz” who was later adopted by a baloch freedom fighter. Torbaz became the wandering falcon, traveling from the tribal areas of Pakistan/ FATA ,Pak-Afghan border to the dreadful mountains of Balochistan.

No one has explained the tribal areas, their customs, their compassion & brutality so beautifully, as Jamil Ahmed has.The way he unraveled their austerity, generosity and honor reflects that he observed them so closely and lived their life during his time in remote areas.

Darbar e dil is about a girl “meher sami”. Just a girl like us emotional and fragile. Her faith in GOD was so strong And then there was a time when she bargained her prayers and begged Allah to give her , love of her life. Her life took a 180 degree turn and transformed her in totally different person.

Sometimes we don’t know what we are praying for:

“Aur insan shar ko is tarhan mangta hai jaise khair ko aur beshak insaan bara he jald baaz waqay hua hai” (Surah bani israel)

For me there was two essential aspects in this book:

1: Your actions will always haunt you no matter what, the consequences of your actions will have to be dealt with eventually, you can’t just walk away from your deeds. Sooner or later you will pay the price for your actions.

2: Faith-We should be careful, what we wish for,don’t question GOD’s will, Try to trust Allah’s divine plan and timing,we are unaware of that how many times HE saved us from evil attacks and sinful people just like HE saved Meher Sami.

This story will give you goosebumps & will change your concept about life.

Darbar-e-dil is very close to my heart and i have learned so much from this book.I am sure you will fall in love with this book 💕

As they say “books take you away from reality” I don’t feel the same sorry!

I believe books teach us how to create our reality and live a life, broaden our view,books are not always an imagination, it can be anyone’s reality, with time my focus diverted from story to writer,I have felt more for words than fictional characters, I always wanted to know what was on their mind when they were writing,I am a reader, but I don’t find any escape I love my reality somehow books played an important part in that acceptance, when you read so many characters, how they act in different scenarios, Their approach towards life and people around them, how a writer is creating an illusion, making it logical and believable!

All of this has contributed to our life, we evolve with a book its a part of our growth. For those who find escape in books, I pray their reality to become so beautiful that they never want an escape in any form.

As I am talking about books, their impact on our daily life and their contribution to our thought process and mental growth. There are plenty of books I really enjoyed reading and learnt a great deal from but I will share the book that has a radical effect on me is :

Forty rules of love by Elif Shafak

“Forty Rules of Love” is a masterpiece by Elif Shafak one of the most celebrated Turkish writer. This book is a classic for Rumi and Shams of Tabriz’s admirers.

In which she effortlessly explained that how you can be unhappy and empty in a picture perfect marriage. To fill this emptiness she started writing a review on the book “Sweet blasphemy” as a part-time job. Reading that book changed Ella’s (the protagonist) perception about life, happiness and her personality evolved with every turning page. She found love at the age of forty.

But for me, the captivating part was Shams of Tabriz (the whirling dervish who confronted folk wisdom and stereotypes) & Rumi’s relation. I have read many versions of Shams and Rumi’s equation, countless western misunderstandings of mystical love but no one has ever described their bond so beautifully.

One of my favourite rule from Sham’s Forty rules:

Jalaluddin Rumi met his spiritual companion, Shams of Tabriz, they have spent several months together and it changed the great scholar and teacher Jalaluddin Rumi’s life. Shams gave him the key to all doors and taught him how to defeat his “Nafs” and how after winning the inside war a lover’s true self appears. 

Rule no #2 The path to the Truth is a labour of the heart, not of the head. Make your heart your primary guide! Not your mind. Meet, challenge and ultimately prevail over your Nafs with your heart. Knowing your ego will lead you to the knowledge of God.

Rumi was grieving and turned into a poet when Shams left (Note: don’t pay attention to the western interpretations) because Shams was the one who taught him the right way to love GOD & HIS creation, Rumi’s Love for GOD & his poetry was a gift from Shams. Rumi loved Shams companionship because of Shams connection with GOD “Rumi loved Shams love for GOD”, he loved his wisdom, he was Shams’s admirer, Rumi wanted to learn and absorb all the knowledge and wisdom he had, but he knew Shams’s life was  flowing river “unstoppable”. 

Rule no# 40 A life without love is of no account. Don’t ask yourself what kind of love you should seek, spiritual or material, divine or mundane, Eastern or Western. Divisions only lead to more divisions. Love has no labels, no definitions. It is what it is, pure and simple. Love is the water of life. And a lover is a soul of fire! The universe turns differently when fire loves water.

*you will be a different person after reading this. Highly recommended !

My feudal lord revolves around a prominent politician and a feudal lord Mr Khar and a woman from a wealthy, ultra-modern family. With a disturbed childhood.

She wanted to shake society’s foundations by exposing the feudal mind set and how inhumane they are but unfortunately her book lacks honesty. She portrays herself as completely innocent and plays the women card skilfully. But she also raises important issues like domestic violence and feudalism. Its a grim truth of our country & that needs to be addressed.

I don’t support feudalism or domestic violence but every biography is always a one sided-story and biased it needs immense amount of courage to write an impartial biography where you pin point your own mistakes and flaws too.

I enjoyed reading this book and learned a great deal but no one is completely naive and virtuous. There are always two sides of every story, be aware of the half truth, don’t be judgmental.

I was going through Najwa Zebian’s Instagram when I saw some motivational videos of hers and read some quotes. I found her work so inspiring that I bought her book “The mind Platter”. The way she speaks, in every single word there is pain, strength, anguish, experiences, and her will to fight & shine against all odds.Her journey is so visible in her words, she explained the heartbreaks so beautifully and promised another tomorrow, she reminded her readers that there is always light at the end of the tunnel, I hope I am not wrong if I say “motivation” is her genre.“If they break the promises that they once made, it does not mean that you were not worth making these promises come true. I mean that they are no longer willing to put in the effort to live up to their words. You did your part by believing their words. And that’s what good people do. Even if there is a chance the other people lying, we believe them. Not because we are naive. But because we believe in them. we believe in their ability to fulfill the words they have said. We know that it’s much easier to give up on someone than it is to make a difference in their lives by being someone who believed in them” Mind Platter^

I overall liked the book. The only thing that bothered me was the long passages and because of those long paragraphs, I kept losing connection at times. I personally appreciate a short and sweet way of writing where I get what I’m looking for in just two-three lines but her words were the reflection of her reality, her journey & reality can’t always be sweet and precise.

This book was on my list from a long time. I really enjoyed it a lot. Gone girl is a psychological thriller and full of suspense .This book has this thing that you can’t leave it without finishing in one go. It was a roller-coaster ride. Flynn described the characters beautifully, their equation is unique and relatable at the same time (trust me you will feel it). I always enjoy unpredictability, the plot twists, mystery. Gone girl has it all.

P.s I am not satisfied with the ending but still very well written and a must read!
